Is there anyone out there who hasn't heard that Joss Whedon has a new TV series in the works? Described as a fusion of Alias and Quantum Leap, Dollhouse will star Eliza Dushku as the childlike Echo, one of a number of "dolls" who have temporary personalities and skills imprinted on them by handlers. The dolls are then sent out to perform crimes, fulfill fantasies and execute Mission Impossible-type capers ... always for a substantial fee. The catch? Echo is remembering things between missions, developing—or rediscovering—an independent personality she is not supposed to have.
With filming complete on a first episode and a flurry of rumors about when the show might actually air—this fall or in January as a midseason replacement—devoted fans of the Buffyverse and Firefly have already begun building sites about the show. Dollverse is one such site, a relatively spoiler-free hub of news, rumors, cast and crew announcements, trailers and even the occasional poll.

At present this site's most important offerings are its news blog and a discussion forum—one that is incredibly busy when you consider the show has not aired yet. Areas of the Web page are set aside for episode summaries, trailers and image galleries. In keeping with recent Web trends, Dollverse has already forged ties to social networking sites like Facebook; it has links to a LiveJournal community and a feed from Twitter. This Web page is at the hub of a substantial, multifaceted fannish network already building around the program, in other words ... little surprise, considering Whedon's ardent following.

With Dollhouse shaping up to be one of the most anticipated new shows in years, the viewer appetite for details about the show is immense ... and growing. With its up-to-the-minute news and a growing body of information about the show, Dollverse might only whet that hunger ... but at least site visitors can commiserate together while they wait for the premiere.
