Adventures in Scifi Publishing

By Ken Newquist

Adventures in Scifi Publishing is a twice-a-month podcast offering tours of the untamed wilds of the science-fiction publishing industry. Guides Shaun Farrell and Sam Wynns discuss the latest in publishing news and its implications for science fiction and fantasy, such as the possible buyout of Borders Books by Barnes & Noble and the aftershocks of science fiction grandmaster Arthur C. Clarke's death.
The core of the show, though, is its interviews. The hosts have spoken with a huge number of authors, including old favorites like Larry Niven and Michael Moorcock, modern mainstays like Kim Stanley Robinson, Tad Williams and Terry Goodkind and emerging writers like podcaster-turned-published novelist Scott Sigler. Interviews venture beyond the standard "meet the author" fluff, offering insights into the publishing industry, such as Tracy Hickman's experiences working with Wizards of the Coast and Goodkind's thoughts on how the science-fiction book industry is committing suicide.

Special episodes venture into other areas of publishing, including author panels from Comic-Con and interviews with the winners and judges of L. Ron Hubbard's "Writers and Illustrators of the Future" contest.
